Welcome to the Engineering Management & Systems Engineering Department at Old Dominion University. The EMSE department focuses on producing high-quality undergraduate and graduate students for professional engineering and systems management leadership positions.
The Engineering Management minor provides undergraduates the foundational skills necessary to manage projects and lead project teams. The Master of Engineering Management (M.E.M.) degree prepares students to manage engineering organizations. The Master of Science (M.S.) program in Engineering Management and the Master of Engineering (M.E.) program in Systems Engineering, for those who seek a thesis-based, research-oriented graduate degree, allow students to specialize in a research discipline. The Doctor of Engineering is a project-based degree allowing students to specialize in an industrial or enterprise sector. The Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Engineering Management prepares students for teaching and academic careers. The department also offers a post-master's Certificate of Professional Study in Engineering Management for students who would like to continue their studies beyond the master's degree level, but are not inclined to make the commitment required of a research oriented Ph.D. program.
Research is a key ingredient of our graduate programs and the EMSE department continually focuses on expanding research in all areas of engineering management and systems engineering. This effort includes support for graduate students to attend and present papers at major conferences, increasing the number of students that publish their research in engineering journals prior to graduation, and maintaining mutually beneficial joint research initiatives with industry, enterprise, and government partners.
This website provides detailed information on academic and research programs in the EMSE department. Additionally, it offers valuable information on course offerings. I invite you to learn more about us, and please feel free to contact any faculty member if you have questions about our academic or research programs. Best wishes as you consider us in pursuit of your educational and organizational goals.
