About Us

Dental Hygiene Lab

Established in 1967, the Gene W. Hirschfeld School of Dental Hygiene at Old Dominion University has an active student community, is engaged in research and embraces interprofessional education (IPE). We offer three programs--an entry-level B.S.D.H., a post-licensure B.S.D.H. and an M.S.D.H.--and we're accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA).

Our teaching faculty is comprised of ten full-time faculty, nine of whom hold a Master of Science in Dental Hygiene degree and one DMD in Medical Dentistry. One faculty member has a doctoral degree, three are tenured, four are on a tenure track, and one is on a clinical track. We also employ 10-15 adjunct faculty members during the academic year to teach didactic and clinical courses.
