Grading Equity
This workshop from the Center for Faculty Development will explore issues and strategies related to grading equity. Lecturer Kole Matheson, Department of English; Associate Professor Kevin DePew, Department of English; and Lecturer Ann Kumm, English Language Center, will share assessment practices that avoid privileging or penalizing students' cultural backgrounds and lived experiences, while maintaining standards of rigor set by departments, colleges, and the University. Traditional grading practices will be examined for their equitable integrity, alongside alternative practices that not only account for equity but also the workload of the instructor. These practices will include labor-based grading contracts, ungrading and self-assessment.
