Federal Work Study (FWS) Internship Program – Coming Fall 2024!
By Lisa Moser
Hire student interns using Federal Work Study funds! Career Development Services was awarded a Transforming Federal Work Study (FWS) grant from the State Council for Higher Education for Virginia (SCHEV) in May 2023 for Implementation Planning to investigate what is needed to make FWS positions more internship-like. The charge was set to create and advance a sustainable, university-based internship program at ºÚÁÏÕýÄÜÁ¿ that utilizes FWS funding to compensate students. The Steering Committee has been meeting over the past year to establish the foundation of on-campus FWS internships. As we secure the next stage of grant monies, we plan to carry out a two-year pilot of FWS internship-like experiences in the fall. Pre-pilot forums have been scheduled in April to learn more about the program requirements and how to apply to request a FWS Internship position. These lunch and learn-style workshops for faculty and staff will explain the onboarding process and their roles as FWS Intern Program supervisors and mentors to the FWS Interns. Register to attend one of these .
