Oleksandr Kravchenko, associate professor in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, was selected for this year’s by the American Society for Composites (ASC).
The award acknowledges a researcher and member of the composites community under the age of 35 who, in the early stages of their career, has made a noteworthy contribution to the science and technology of composite materials.
ASC president Erian Armanios praised Kravchenko’s selection, “Professor Kravchenko’s contributions to composites speak of his relentless drive to address timely, challenging research. This unwavering drive is eloquently expressed in his early work on measuring the thermal and curing shrinkage associated with the composites curing cycle, as well as his recent work on induced material variability and defects providing relevant insight into the variation of the failure modes in adhesively bonded joints. His horizons are absolutely unlimited!”
Kravchenko’s research primarily deals with lightweight polymer composite materials that can be used in structural applications, such as aerospace, automotive and infrastructure.
The award was presented at the 2023 ASC Technical Conference Awards Banquet in September at the University of Massachusetts – Lowell.
