Over the summer, Chrysoula Malogianni Ph.D., the associate vice president of digital innovation at Old Dominion University, attended the “AI in Postsecondary Education Working Session: Advancing AI Together” event convened by the U.S. Department of Education.

This day-long gathering brought together artificial intelligence innovators from the top academic institutions across the U.S. to discuss the transformative potential of AI in education. The event aimed to explore how AI can enhance teaching, learning and student success.

The event kicked off with welcoming remarks from Department of Education representatives James Kvaal, undersecretary, and Roberto Rodriguez, assistant secretary for planning, evaluation and policy development. Dr. Arati Prabhakar, director of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, delivered a keynote address.

Malogianni joined fellow participants in roundtable discussions and breakout sessions, exploring topics such as implications for enrollment and admissions, teaching, learning, support services and responsible innovation and equitable implementation.

“As the only university based in Virginia, it was a great honor to represent Old Dominion University among other institutions who have paved the way for AI innovation over the last half century,” said Malogianni. “There was a lot of great insights shared in this working session and I look forward to keeping on the national stage when it comes to AI best practices and integration into our curriculum.”
