With Thanksgiving right around the corner, now is an ideal time for Old Dominion University faculty and staff to make a difference in the lives of fellow Virginians by giving to the , which celebrates its 25th anniversary this year.
The campaign, which began in 1997, is celebrating a quarter century of “giving and volunteerism.” It is the officially sanctioned, nonprofit fundraising program to help more than 120,000 commonwealth employees safely and easily donate to their favorite causes throughout the year. Donors have nearly 900 trusted charities to choose from.
In 2021, more than 200 givers donated a total of $40,000.
Once again, the Old Dominion University Educational Foundation is a nonprofit option; all proceeds will support student scholarships and programs. Another option is Cares, a focused effort by the University to assist students who face financial hurdles.
Donors will be eligible to win prizes through weekly drawings. The sooner employees make a pledge, the greater their chance of winning, because they'll be eligible for the duration of the campaign. Prizes could include -branded blankets, T-shirts, water bottles, backpacks, coolers, stadium seat cushions and more.
To donate, employees can use ePledge, a secure online way to give by credit card or payroll deduction. Campaign coordinators will also accept paper pledges.
To make an ePledge, visit the . If you wish to make a paper pledge, ask your coordinator for a form.
When employees give to the CVC, 100% of designations go directly to the charity or nonprofit they choose. The campaign ends Dec. 31; payroll deductions begin in January.
