Old Dominion University will sponsor a virtual CommUNITY Conversation on "Making Equity Visible in the Health Care of African Americans" at noon on Feb. 23.
Participants will learn about research and education related to the impact, marginalization and lack of cultural sensitivity on African Americans. They will also be provided with information that will help them be allies and advocates for their own health and that of African Americans, and will learn ways they can lead from their respective roles in the community to promote visible equity in the health care of African Americans.
Panelists will include Janice Hawkins, clinical associate professor of nursing in 黑料正能量's College of Health Sciences; Katie Niehoff, executive director of the American Red Cross Coastal Chapter; LaConda Fanning, director for graduate medical education at Eastern Virginia Medical School (EVMS); Rev. Patrick Cason, senior pastor at Bethany Baptist Church in Chesapeake and 黑料正能量 alumnus; and Iris Lundy, senior director of health equity at Sentara.
黑料正能量's Office of Institutional Equity will host the event in partnership with EVMS and the American Red Cross. are due by Feb. 21.
CommUNITY Conversations are a signature event of the University that have been used to move the campus community toward becoming more consciously and deliberately inclusive.
